The story of Best American Roofing LLC began with a conversation in an office in Summit, NJ. José and Cristian Chinchilla, two hardworking brothers, walked into their boss’s office to ask for a raise, hopeful they’d be recognized for their dedication and skill. But the response they got changed everything. Their boss said he appreciated their work, but others had seniority, and he couldn’t give them a raise at that time. Leaving the office, they looked at each other and asked a question that would alter their lives: Why work for someone else if we already know the ropes?

That question sparked an idea, and soon after, José and Cristian teamed up with their younger brother, Laurence, to build something of their own. They spent nights at the kitchen table, tossing around ideas for their new company. Finally, Cristian suggested “Best American Roofing,” and it clicked. They registered the name in Union County, marking the start of a business that wouldn’t just build roofs but would also build a legacy.

Early Years

Struggles and Perseverance

Starting out was anything but easy. All three brothers had left their jobs to start fresh, with little money but a lot of faith that their hard work and knowledge would win over their first clients. The first year was filled with challenges; each project meant the world to them, and every satisfied customer was a step toward stability. They may have been a small, unknown company, but their determination never wavered. With every roof they built, they were reminded their efforts were worth it.

2008

A Difficult Goodbye

As the business grew and gained stability, an unexpected decision tested the family’s strength. Cristian, one of Best American Roofing’s founders, decided to move to another state with his family, stepping away from the company he helped build. His departure was hard on everyone, but José and Laurence knew they had to keep going. True to the values that started it all, the two brothers committed to serving their clients and honoring the family legacy. Cristian’s exit was a tough moment, but it strengthened their resolve to carry on.

My wife and I needed a new roof on our home. I had 3 local, well known companies come in for an estimate. 1st one was in the price range of $11000 (geez, I have a small ranch), the second guy came in and quoted me $9900. Our existing roof had reached its useful life and needed to be replaced. The original wood shingle and two asphalt layers needed removal and new plywood underlay applied. Being a rather involved replacement I wanted a very experienced contractor with quality materials and a reputable background to engage the job. After carefully selecting and reviewing several providers I chose Jose of Best American Roofing. After a thorough inspection of what had to be accomplished he then explained in detail what needed to be done and told me what results I should expect. For me quality not price was the driving issue, his price was very fair. He was thorough, factual, and provided me with some excellent options. Throughout the entire process he wanted me to be happy with what I chose and encouraged me to call him with questions at any time. He responded to all phone calls, was punctual on delivery, provided quality materials, was honest in every way. Cleanup was excellent, and his crew was friendly and well trained. I would highly recommend the company and the roof looks great.One of his team members, Calvin was persistent in communicating with me on a consistent basic for me to make the decision sooner than later; to get our roof done and we are grateful we did because they replaced 20 ply wood pieces-removing water damaged wood. Since than him and his brother have layed roofs on my first, second homes and my sister's house without with no issues whatsoever even after 20yrs! They really take pride in their work and follow manufacters specifications unlike many other so called roofers out there that don't knoe what they are doing, t hey are honest and care about customer satisfaction.
